One of the most versatile Missouri native trees, river birch is a fast-growing tree that can adapt to varying soil, sun and moisture conditions. River birch often grows into multi-trunk tree with spreading canopy. River birch can eventually grow to 70 feet tall as a larger overstory tree.

 

Ideal in rain garden settings to stabilize soil and reduce rainwater runoff. Multiseason interest - delicate leaves and peeling bark bring interesting texture to the fall and winter naturescape. It's fall foliage is a lovely yellow. 

 

Native to the Midwest, Eastern US and Eastern Canada (USDA)
